Catostomidae, Suckers


Aptly named, owing to their cranial morphology and mode of feeding. Unjustly maligned in most cases, however. Some species are excellent indicators of good water quality. Also, suckers have coexisted with North American salmonids for thousands of years so don’t blame them for trout problems.
